Chihiro Gompei (b.1985, Tokyo) lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. Chihiro observes nomadic tendencies in the contemporary society and investigates the relation between the sense of place and daily objects. Employing found objects and home materials such as fabrics, clays and wood, she creates floor based sculptures and installations. Chihiro explores the material property of objects and its ambiguous boundary with one’s subjectivity. While her works appear available for use, they bear sculptural autonomy and otherness.
